Exploration Grants – bisher Geförderte.
Dieses Programm bietet die Möglichkeit, überraschende Beobachtungen oder neue, spannende Ideen auszuloten und Neuland zu betreten. Aufgrund ihres explorativen Charakters sind diese Projekte naturgemäß mit einem hohen Risiko verbunden: Nur ein Teil wird weiterführen, viele werden scheitern, manche werden neue Ideen bringen. So werden Publikationen als Ergebnis einer Förderung eher die Ausnahme als die Regel sein. In der letzten Umfrage unter den Geförderten gaben mehr als 40 Prozent an, das Exploration Grant-Projekt fortgeführt und erweitert zu haben. Rund ein Drittel der Projekte bildete die Grundlage für das erfolgreiche Einwerben weiterer Drittmittel, darunter mehrere der renommierten Grants des Europäischen Research Councils (ERC).
